Aim

To enable staff to identify the essential components of a report, to recognise examples of good and bad writing and to practise techniques for improving report writing skills.

Objectives

Before attending the course participants will be asked to bring with them a short example of something which they consider to be well-written (e.g. a report, newspaper article, leaflet, etc.). In groups, they will be asked to identify examples of 'good' and 'bad' report writing and to explore report-writing pitfalls.
Participants will be asked to write a minimum of two reports each during the session and to practise different preparation techniques. They will also investigate techniques for improving report writing skills.

Evaluation

Each participant will be expected to produce a minimum of two reports during the session together with a personal action plan identifying their own areas of concern and plan for improvement for use in their workplace.
